I've been working in the studio on a commissioned painting and one I hope to get accepted into a juried show. As therapeutic as I find painting, the studio feels a little bit quiet working solo. There's nothing better for the soul than creating art with a pal. In my case, my art pal is a 6 year old fashionista called Lily Rose. She is the child of a former neighbor and her exuberant visits to my studio filled it with an energy and enthusiasm I loved. She would tackle any art projects I set up for her with gusto and often spin out to her own creations with whatever materials were on offer. From painting with her favorite colors of pink and purple to making pom pom chicks and clay turtles, this beautiful girl would tell me. "I'm really quite creative you know!" This was a statement not a question as her confidence knew no bounds. I loved every minute of her chatter and imagination and I learned from her.
Some of my favorite moments are captured below. We went to the Zoo and she chalked a jumbo pink elephant on the sidewalk. The concentration on her face was just the best. We made Frankenstein masks out of paper plates on Halloween and she stole every second of my attention away from the rest of the party. She painted her dog, Lola, and my dog, Velvet onto a giant rock and told me they'd be best friends forever. Lily Rose, Lola and her family have moved to another city leaving the neighborhood and my studio is just a little bit lack luster but I have a feeling, this little artist will be back in the Artybar studio in the future. I can't wait.
