A Lesson in Oil

Just finished my first oil painting under the tutelage of Marissa Yow. A very different experience for this watercolor artist. I found the mess that I managed to get my brushes into frustrating. No quick shake in the water jar for oil brushes or painting for the day would be over. Instead I seemed to use every brush in my brush roll and never have the right size brush left for the section I was working on. I can only imagine going plein air painting with oil as my trolley bag was overflowing with materials. On the plus side, the thick, shiny paint was very satisfying. Building dark to light makes the image take shape very quickly in an almost 3d touchable way. Luxurious and glossy. The finished article was a monochrome pear which my brother-in-law has claimed for his birthday. Onwards and upwards to the next piece.
