Every artist hopes for some interesting art supplies as a stocking stuffer. I was not disappointed. I bagged some oil paints just in time to enroll in a beginners' oil painting class in the New Year. I'll have to keep you posted on my progress there as I've only ever done 4 oil paintings in my life. Meanwhile I put my new watercolor brushes from my stocking to the test by painting on those dull, cold days between Christmas and New Year to stop idle hands being the devil's workshop and reaching for another mincemeat pie or chocolate truffle.
I haven't done much figure drawing or painting lately and it used to be my go to piece. I thought it would be a good subject for me. I've been looking to paint large but time and space usually works against this. Having no excuse on either count sitting in my studio during the holidays, I started on a semi-nude watercolor to test out new brushes and big paper. The result was my 'Stealing Shade' watercolor. I photographed the painting at different stages of the process on my Smartphone and posted the first phase on my Facebook page. It generated a lot of interest so I thought I'd share all the stages with you in these basic photographs.
I'm hoping to exhibit the finished piece soon so I'll update the site with the gallery information soon.
